About
The writer behind The Long Way Home
Hi, I’m Cassandra — the writer behind The Long Way Home. My journey began in East London, South Africa, arguably a part of the most beautiful province in our country, and was shaped by Cape Town, whose beauty and spirit stretched my imagination, with a few stints across the globe and a love for travel and storytelling. I now call Johannesburg home.
As a child, whether on a trip back from school, the grocery store, or the beach, I would always ask that we take the long way home. Not because I was avoiding being home, but because I loved looking out of the window and soaking in all the beautiful scenery. A trip I knew from memory, yet each time somehow more wonderful than the last.
I believe that we’re all accompanying each other home. Some journeys are longer than others, some more exciting, yet there is comfort in knowing we get to cross paths with the people we do on our way home. Home takes many different forms and meanings for each of us, and the beauty lies in taking the scenic route together.
The Long Way Home is a literary publication of reflections, poems, and letters about belonging, becoming, and finding beauty along the scenic route home. I work as a strategist, creative director, and business development executive across everything an agency touches, but at the heart of it, I’m a writer.
